SARIYER

When we enter the village

We immediately leave the village again.

So small is the village by the river.

When we enter the village

We are met by

The smell of fish.

That is how we know we are in the village

By the river.

When we leave the village

Women are hanging out of the windows.

They wave us goodbye.

They chatter and laugh.

So simple is life in the village.

When they fast

They spread seeds on their bread.

When they eat fish

They eat the head as dessert.

When they have a feast

We have already left the village.

So simple can life be

In the village by the river.

When we leave the village

We see the mountains.

Beyond these mountains

The mountains are higher

But less green.

When we are together again

We want to live in these mountains

Outside the village by the river.
